Faecal sludge management and private sector

In India, approximately 60% of the urban population is dependent on on-site sanitation systems. We work with cities to implement sanitation services across the value chain. We focus on policies, regulations and institutional factors and work with various stakeholders to ensure that the service provided is effective, sustainable and financially viable for the city. Our approach included developing viable business and financial models which explored partnerships with the private sector to provide quality services with the ULBs. This comprised of building capacities of the ULBs and private sector to draw up performance-based contracts and build their monitoring capacities.
