Slum free city action plan
Ahmedabad is one of the few cities in India that provide water and sanitation services in all slums. In 2009, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation conducted a slum census in the city and mapped each slum settlement. CWAS support was sought by AMC to develop a slum information system. With the help of Mahila Housing Trust (MHT), CWAS carried out verification of slum information and updated the information on a GIS platform.
A Slum Atlas was prepared. This Atlas was used in preparation of a Slum Free City Action Plan for Ahmedabad. Additionally, a slum networking plan for Ahmedabad was proposed to integrate slum infrastructure into the main network of the city. This was done through active partnership of the Slum Dwellers, private sector, NGOs and City Government.
