City Sanitation

In India, small and medium towns comprise nearly 40% of India’s urban population. While there are large gaps in sanitation across urban India, these gaps are more pronounced in the small and medium towns. Our work focuses on city-wide approach for assessment and developing improvement strategies for end-to-end sanitation in small and medium towns. These towns act as “laboratories for urban sanitation” to test innovative approaches that can be applied to other small and medium towns, and inform policy formulation at the state and national levels.

City sanitation planning and ODF

Drawing on emerging global practices and findings, we developed a framework for city-wide sanitation assessment and planning across the sanitation service chain for demonstrating sustainable and equitable sanitation

Faecal sludge management and private sector

In India, approximately 60% of the urban population is dependent on on-site sanitation systems and more than 70% of cities are entirely dependent on on-site sanitation.

Inclusive sanitation and behaviour change

Our work focuses on developing and support implementation of City Wide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) which aims to ensure access to safely managed sanitation to everyone.
