Scheduled Desludging of Septic Tanks in Wai

Households in small and medium towns of India rely on on-site sanitation systems like septic tanks which need to be emptied regularly to keep functioning efficiently. However, these onsite systems are often not emptied causing faecal matter and other containments to overflow along with effluent, posing widespread pollution. To address this issue, scheduled desludging service of onsite sanitation systems was introduced in Wai City. This first-of-its-kind service in India functions on the principle that all septic tanks in the city are to be emptied once in every three years according to a pre-determined schedule.
