Institutional Arrangements and Regulation of Faecal Sludge Management in Maharashtra

Little attention has been placed on appropriate regulation and monitoring of on-site sanitation. This study reviews the rules, regulations and institutional mechanisms that govern liquid and human waste management in Maharashtra. It looks at the full chain of sanitation, starting from user interfaces to final disposal and reuse. Findings suggest some gaps in legislation and, more importantly, a complete lack of capacity and focus in monitoring.
