Faecal Sludge Treatment Plan Government Resolution

December 2019

All urban areas of the state have been declared as open defecation free on 1 st October, 2017. After the declaration of open defecation free, cities are moving towards 'ODF+' and further moving towards 'ODF++' status by providing safe transportation and treatment of the sewage and faecal sludge and septage. The faecal sludge from the septic tanks of toilets in 73 cities out of 384 in the state, is being treated in own STP, FSTP or co-treatment. To ensure safe treatment and disposal of faecal matter from the rest of the 311 cities, a government resolution was passed to provide guidelines to cities for selection and implementation of an appropriate treatment technology. These treatment technology options have been vetted by NEERI.
