Financing Urban Development Course at CEPT

Finance is critical for urban development. There are various ways in which a government (national, state or local) raises and allocates funds for capital expenditure.

This course on “Financing Urban Development” is developed for Masters students of Urban Infrastructure and Planning at CEPT University, India. The course is taught by Dr.Meera Mehta and Dr.Dinesh Mehta and the materials is developed with support from Mr. Dhruv Bhavsar, Ms Upasana Yadav and Ms Saubiya Sareshwala from Center for Water and Sanitation (CWAS)-CRDF, India.

The course aims to introduce concepts of public finance and project finance. Public finance topics would include discussions on national and state finance, inter-governmental transfers, and results-based funding. Municipal finance is examined in greater detail through municipal budget analysis, sources of revenue, and items of expenditure. Potential sources of capital and revenue finances for municipalities and municipal corporations are examined.
