Performance Efficiency of Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTPs) in Maharashtra

Government of Maharashtra focuses on ODF sustainability and ensuring effective collection and treatment of human waste in all cities. Urban Development Department (UDD), GoM developed statewide strategy on faecal waste management and treatment. In this regard, it decided to set up the independent FSTPs 300+ ULBs, of which more than 170 FSTPs are operational. It was essential to understand the functioning of the FSTPs. A study was conducted to understand the peformance efficiency of the operational FSTPs in Maharashtra. The Centre for Water and Sanitation (CWAS) at CEPT University carried out this study in sixteen cities of Maharashtra.
