State-Level Master Trainer's training on Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026
June 2026
The Center for Water and Sanitation (CWAS), CRDF, CEPT University, participated in the State-Level Master Trainers’ Training on the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026, organised by the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban (SBM-U), Government of Gujarat.
Dhruv Bhavsar from CWAS team delivered the keynote session on the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026, highlighting the transformative shift introduced under the new Rules, from a traditional “collect and dump” approach to an outcomes-oriented framework focused on 4-way source segregation, resource recovery, circular economy principles, and digital monitoring. Over 300 participants attended this training. The session emphasised the critical roles of elected representatives, sanitation workers, supervisors, and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in translating the provisions of the Rules into effective on-ground action. Participants were also oriented to the key provisions of the SWM Rules 2026, the major changes from the SWM Rules 2016, and the preparedness required at the city level to ensure compliance and effective implementation.
As a Swachhata Knowledge Partner (SKP), CWAS remains committed to supporting state and local governments in strengthening institutional capacities and advancing sustainable solid waste management practices.
