A study on wastewater reuse practices & reuse potentials the urban centers of Maharashtra

May 2020

One eighth of India`s population is living the 'Day Zero' scenario. Continued pollution of freshwater sources due to inadequate collection and treatment of wastewater poses enormous challenge. This research focuses on productive uses for wastewater and its associated economic benefits. It presents possible strategies for city and state policy makers to initiate a discourse on wastewater reuse in the local milieu. The research takes the case of Kolhapur, for which a six-staged action plan is suggested to promote reuse of wastewater. This approach may be adopted at the state level in Maharashtra to ensure water security.
