Workshop on Water Security for Urban Local Bodies in Maharashtra

April 2026

Cities in Maharashtra are increasingly facing challenges in achieving water security due to climate variability, rapid urbanisation and rising demand for water resources. Seasonal water scarcity, declining groundwater levels, pollution of water bodies and urban flooding highlight the urgent need for improved water management at the city level. On the occasion of Earth Day 2026, an online workshop was organised by Mazi Vasundhara Abhiyan in partnership with the Center for Water and Sanitation (CWAS), focusing on these issues. The workshop brought together ULB officials from across the state to understand key challenges, explore practical and scalable solutions and promote knowledge exchange for building water-secure and climate-resilient cities.
