Training program on Standard Operating Procedures for Operations of pumps in Water and Sanitation Value Chain

September 2024

As climate change intensifies, cities must adopt sustainable practices to enhance resilience and reduce carbon footprints. Recognizing this need, the Center for Water and Sanitation (CWAS) conducted a preliminary energy audit in Vita, Karad, and Ichalkaranji, highlighting the critical role of pump efficiency in optimizing energy use in water and sanitation infrastructure. To address this, a one-day Training Workshop on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Pump Operations was organized for engineers and pump operators of various ULBs. The workshop covered essential topics, including pump basics, constructional features, installation procedures, operational and maintenance checks, common issues, and case studies. A key highlight was the on-site demonstration of SOPs at Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) and Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs). This hands-on training equipped participants with practical knowledge to improve pump efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and enhance overall system performance across ULBs. The insights gained from the workshop are expected to drive more sustainable and cost-effective water and sanitation infrastructure in these cities.
