This research aims to review assessment frameworks for municipal governance in order to deduce recommendations for a comprehensive perspective supporting municipal sustainability. Assessment frameworks help in discerning inadequacies that can be categorized in two groups- ones that are in the governance structure itself and need to be addressed before assessment of governance and others that are apparent after the structure is in place. This research includes frameworks identified through desk research and can be understood as illustrative of the broader trends of governance assessment practices. It identifies critical themes, components and indicators and further evaluates them.
