Seminar on Jal Sanchay through Jan Bhagidari at Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation

Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation organised a seminar on “Jal Sanchay through Jan Bhagidari” to promote awareness on groundwater conservation and the importance of Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) structures in addressing declining groundwater levels in Bhavnagar city. Inspired by the Government initiatives “Jal Sanchay, Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) 2.0” and “Catch the Rain”, the seminar highlighted the Municipal Corporation’s “80:20 Public Participation Scheme” aimed at encouraging citizen participation in the construction of Rainwater Harvesting Structures across the city.

During the seminar, the CWAS team delivered a presentation on the importance of groundwater recharge and Rainwater Harvesting Structures, highlighting the need for collective efforts towards sustainable urban water management and long-term water resilience.The seminar covered key aspects including water scarcity and the current groundwater scenario, state-level initiatives and targets, different types of RWH structures and their costs, the importance and benefits of groundwater recharge, and the role of public participation in strengthening water security.
