Prof. V.M.Dandekar memorial seminar at the Indian School of Political Economy, Pune

The Indian School of Political Economy, Pune organised a Prof. V.M.Dandekar memorial seminar on 'Urban Governance' on the 20th and 21st of January, 2026. At the seminar, Prof. Meera Mehta and Prof. Dinesh Mehta deliberated on the Fiscal Dimension of Urban Governance in India. In their address, they highlighted the limited powers with the ULBs in India to generate and spend financial resources, leading to their systemic ‘disempowerment’. They emphasised improvements in intergovernmental transfers and the adoption of innovative financing tools as some of the solutions through which ULBs can strengthen their financial capacity.
