City Resilience Framework for Small and Medium Towns of India (2020)

July 2020

Indian cities are currently facing a multi-hazard situation, with shocks like pandemic and other pre-existing stresses related to urban services. It`s important to strengthen our city systems and operations to ensure continual functioning while minimizing disruptions, losses and recovery costs. This research focuses on understanding resilience as a concept at the global, city and community scales and adapts international frameworks to the Indian context. It also explores the context of resilience by the mapping of stresses and shocks faced by Indian cities and their responses to complex emergencies. An approach to resilience has been developed with a framework aiming to reduce vulnerabilities and increase the adaptive capacities of urban systems and vulnerable actors.
